Chess Board Shape Defected Ground Structure for Multi Band Operation of Microstrip Patch Antenna
Abstract
Novel Defected Ground Structures (DGS) were proposed, which have better results than regular H-shaped defect. Using the general model of DGS, its equivalent parameters were extracted. The structure is prepared by placed at equal distance from each other creating a chess board structure. The two new proposed shapes of DGS were then used on square microstrip antenna of 5 GHz and antenna was observed to resonate in lower band of frequency, which gave a minimization of antenna and a multiband operation. The size of the developed antenna was reduced to about 78% of that of the conventional one. This antenna with two different novel shapes of DGS was designed and simulated by using the High frequency simulator ANSYS HFSS. Finally, it was fabricated by using thin film and photolithographic technique and measured by using vector network analyzer. Good agreements were found between the simulated and measured results.
