Application of RFID Technology for Food Safety
Abstract
Food safety is treated as a primary concern in most of the countries especially tracing the food products has become compulsory.Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFIDs) technology assist in keeping the food products safe and provide the information of food in order to avoidhealth implications, food allergies, or other dietary issues. The food products are provided with “smart” chips or “tags” that can be embedded or attached with it will provide the details about the food product by scanning microchip or smart tags. These chip contains details of food manufactured date and the number of days it stays fresh with the information of food product consumer can decide whether to purchase the food product or not.The perishable food products should be monitored carefully because it has lesser storage period when it is placed in storage, RFID assist in giving alerts if any of the stored food product have expired or spoiled. The objective of the study is to identify the use of RFID technology in maintain the food safety.
