Real-time simulation of smoking based on GPU computing for surgical simulation
Abstract
A realistic dynamic synthesis of smoking and simulation model based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is proposed in this paper. Navier-Stokes equations are adopted to model smoke as a constant and incompressible fluid. In order to develop a system with real-time smoking visual effect, this paper utilizes CUDA (the compute unified device architecture) + GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) technologies of NVIDA Company to perform the massive parallel computation by executing multithreading concurrently. The rendering of the smoke is implemented by the three-dimensional texture rendering algorithm based on hardware. In the end, the effect of the real-time dynamic smoking simulation is given. The results show that this method applied to the smoking simulation is elucidating and practical.
