Abstract

The Kansei engineering system for product image survey and retrieval (PISR system) is developed based on the model of product image survey and retrieval by means of Kansei engineering. The system includes product image survey subsystem and product image retrieval subsystem. Firstly, the online survey is conducted on Internet by using a variety of data analysis tools to find product image for consumers; Secondly, generates 2D image scale graph is formed by the resulting data, which makes designers be easy to grasp the information of product image; Thirdly, the product image database is constructed, and designers can find matching products according to image words, which could make designers and consumers reach a consensus on the product image. PISR system is not limited to one type of product. To study and apply the PISR system, the appearance of chairs is as an example. It is successfully verified that the system can gain product orientation, conduct the process of product design and improve the overall efficiency of product development.
