A Review of Laminar Flame Speed Measurement Techniques with Advantages and Challenges Involved in a Use of Hydrogen-Methane Blend in Existing Internal Combustion Engines
Abstract
In the recent years, interest in gaseous fuels has increased significantly due to their ease of combustion, lesser emissions, no ash content etc. Also considering a rise in global warming there is a need for cleaner fuels. One such fuel is a methane-hydrogen blend which can be used in the existing natural gas engines without significant modifications. This paper forms the basis of the future research work where hydrogen obtained from plasma reactor will be combined with Methane and flame speeds of methane-hydrogen blend will be measured for different operating conditions. Different techniques of flame speed measurements are discussed in brief as to select the most efficient method for the future experiment. At the same time, major advantages and challenges of the hydrogen-methane blend are discussed
