Abstract

AVS (Audio Video coding Standard) uses the Rate Distortion Optimization (RDO) technique to select intra and inter prediction modes in order to achieve coding efficiency, but computational complexity becomes more huge. For the high computational complexity, an improved fast intra prediction mode decision algorithm is proposed, which uses the spatial correlation of adjacent blocks and the directivity of luminance variations within a block to reduce the candidate modes to be tested. This algorithm can reduce the candidate modes effectively, and experimental results show that the encoding time decreased by 26.29~36.89% while maintaining the image quality and coding efficiency.
