A QoS-enhanced dynamic bandwidth allocation mechanism in EPONs
Abstract
In this paper, an enhanced QoS-based dynamic bandwidth allocation (EQDBA) mechanism is proposed which incorporates with a prediction-based fair excessive bandwidth allocation (PFEBA) scheme to support differential traffic class in EPON. The EQDBA integrates the advantages of PFEBA and QoS-based dynamic bandwidth allocation (QDBA), which are our previous works, to reduce the overall end-to-end delay. The proposed EQDBA mechanism divides a frame into two parts; one is the high priority traffic which is always assigned in the fixed location of the frame to minimize delay variation. Furthermore, the others traffic are dynamic adjusted the transmission order according to the unstable degree list to solve the idle period problem. The simulation results show that the proposed mechanism outperforms the PFEBA and QDBA mechanisms in terms of average end-to-end delay and high priority traffic delay to ensure quality of service (QoS).
