A scalable QoS enabled mesh-based application layer multicast protocol
Abstract
Efficiency and supporting Quality of Service (QoS) are both important for application layer multicast to give the best service to end-users. In this paper, a scalable and efficient QoS enabled application layer multicast protocol - SQM is proposed on top of mesh overlays. In SQM, it built a two-layer architecture based on a location-aware CAN mesh network. The novel cluster formation algorithm and cluster core selection algorithm is proposed by fully utilizing the properties of mesh networks. In addition, a forward flooding approach is proposed that address the multicast routing scheme. Moreover, the multicast tree holds the QoS requirements on each of its end-to-end paths because the QoS requirement is considered during constructing the architecture. At last, the evaluations show that SQM is scalable, efficient and QoS enabled.
