Abstract

Data broadcast is an effective way for data dissemination in mobile databases. In order to minimize the tuning time of the broadcast scheduling with skewed access probabilities of data items and to reduce the power consumption of the mobile clients, index is used to expedite the access of the disseminated data. Caching the indices in the mobile clients can further reduce the tuning time of the mobile clients. A method is proposed for joint design of the server broadcast scheduling and the user caching strategy that the access delay is minimized. According to the simulation, this method is proved to reduce the tuning time and the access time of the mobile clients significantly.
