Optic disc detection in retinal images via a coarse-to-fine scheme
Abstract
Optic disc (OD) detection is important in developing an automated retinopathy screen system. In this paper, we propose a coarse-to-fine scheme for the fast and accurate detection of OD. In the coarse level, we find the most possible OD-center candidates by fast vessels convergence locating. In the fine level, we find the true OD center from the candidates using a Vessel's Directional Matched Filter (VDMF). This coarse-to-fine scheme achieves fast OD detection. Further, the OD detection accuracy is high because features of both vessels' convergence and vessels' direction are used. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme is fast and accurate in OD detection.
