Research on single-join processing schemes in a mobile computing
Abstract
Based on accurate cost estimate of operations, to select a suitable join query processing scheme can reduce both the amounts of data transmission and energy consumption of mobile units under a mobile computing environment. A new asymmetrical feature of energy consumption at a mobile unit is exploited. And a cost estimate method for join operation is presented. The costs of three single-join processing schemes are evaluated from data transmission and energy consumption, and the performances of them are comparatively analyzed. Then four realistic criteria are achieved to guide us to select the suitable processing scheme and minimize the cost of join operation. The experiments fully demonstrate that the estimate method and the criteria are reliable, and more applicable in comparison with the existing similar models and results.
