Review of Multiple Choice Question Generation System Using Ontologies
Abstract
Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) has a significant role to play in the training and evaluation of students. But, the resource oriented feature of question generation restricts their public availability, decreasing their contribution towards evaluation purposes chiefly. MCQ items have been found to be an effective tool as a measure of the learners’ achievement. The task of manually building MCQ items for tests is difficult and time-consuming when it is frequently hard to design high-quality MCQ items. This review analyses the details of different techniques of ontology based MCQ generation system. The current research has led to the development of ontology MCQ generation. Ontologies are basically structures, utilized for knowledge representation that performs the modelling of domain knowledge in the form of concepts, roles, instances and their associations. The ontology-based MCQ generation systems successfully construct MCQ items but very less research has analysed how much these MCQ items are suitable to be used in an academic environment. An evaluation such as this is required for providing the directives and fixed requirements for the design and evolution of ontology-based MCQ generation systems.
