Time and frequency synchronization for OFDM systems
A new training symbol was designed and an efficient timing and frequency offset estimation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems was proposed. The proposed training symbol is symmetric conjugate in time domain and has good autocorrelation in frequency domain, hence the symbol timing is finished by moving correlation of the received signals in time domain and the frequency offset is estimated by examining the correlation value between the training symbol and the cyclically shifted version of the received training symbol in frequency domain. Compared with conventional schemes, the proposed scheme can achieve a significantly smaller mean square error and provide a wider frequency acquisition range, up to the OFDM bandwidth.
