Urban controlled traffic flow modeling using colored Petri nets
Abstract
The urban traffic signal control system is the core component system of the urban intelligent transportation system (ITS), and moreover, the traffic flow model is the important research foundation of urban traffic signal control systems. In this paper, we present an integrated modeling method for the controlled traffic flow models with colored Petri nets (CPN) through some comparative analysis of traffic flow modeling in the traffic controlled context in order to pursue a hierarchy modularization approach adequately using the CPN structural advantages. As a result, urban controlled CPN traffic flow models established can get used to microscopic, mesoscopic and macroscopic urban controlled traffic modeling research needs, and can realize the seamless links between the traffic flow models and the traffic signal controls. Furthermore, this urban controlled CPN traffic model not only has the good reusability, and also has good openness and expansibility. Finally, in the end of the paper, we show a case of the modeling and simulation through the choice of parameters, control strategy formulation and urban road network traffic flow modeling to validate the controlled traffic modeling method with CPN Tools and put forward further research directions.
