Probabilistic Stability Analysis of Concrete Gravity Dam
Abstract
Safety of dam can be evaluated based on the risk analysis methodologies that accounts for estimation of the risk associated to the dam-reservoir system. For this purpose it is important to estimate the factor of safety and probability of failure for various load combination A to G as per IS: 6512 – 1984 and for different water levels for static and dynamic load conditions with drainage gallery operative and inoperative conditions. The analysed dam is taken from theme C of the eleventh ICOLD benchmark workshop on numerical analysis of dams. The mode of failure considered is sliding failure along the dam foundation interface. The probability of failure estimated with different reliability methods and the random variables c and ϕ are assumed to follow normal distribution. Conclusions are drawn by comparing the results obtained from deterministic and probabilistic analysis, critical load combinations and critical water level is identified
